Hermetic Principles hold the wisdom of the bygone ages and will help you live your life in a better way. There are 7 principles that explain the laws of the universe and can be found in the book “The Kybalion: Hermetic Philosophy”, published in 1908 by “Three Initiates”. The book holds the teachings of Hermes Trismegistus and we have discussed the crux in a simplified manner in this article.
1. Mentalism
“THE ALL IS MIND; The Universe is Mental.“ –The Kybalion
The mind is everything – it can make a heaven out of hell and a hell out of heaven. It is impossible to know the mind in totality as it holds infinite possibilities. According to this Hermetic Principle, the universe is the manifestation of the mind and nothing else. The student must embrace the mental nature of the universe, thereby using the law for their own advancement. In this way, they can unveil the hidden energy fo the world and gain access to the repository of knowledge.
2. Correspondence
“As above, so below; as below, so above.“ –The Kybalion.
The Hermetic Principle of Correspondence teaches us that nothing in the world is arbitrary. The physical plane, the mental plane, and the spiritual plane are all connected. What this implies is that the microcosm and the macrocosm are interlinked – if you take a wrong turn, it will have some effect on your journey. The way you perceive the world depends on your inner being as the two are in correspondence.

3. Vibration
“Nothing rests; everything moves; everything vibrates.“ –The Kybalion.
Ancient Egyptian masters came up with this Hermetic Principle long ago and modern science is in agreement with the claims! What differentiates matter, mind, energy, and spirit, is varying rates of Vibration. With an understanding of the Principle of Vibration, the students can exercise power over their own mental vibrations. A well-balanced person can, in turn, help others, that is the main motive of this theory.
4. Polarity
“Everything is Dual…all paradoxes may be reconciled.“ –The Kybalion.
This Hermetic Principle is a little esoteric but what it means is that the thesis and the antithesis are the two sides of the same coin. There are no absolutes in life. No incident can be viewed as strictly black or white, it is grey. Can you ever demarcate light and darkness with a single opaque line? The answer is no. The hermetic student learns that “good” and “evil” are not two separate things but the poles of the same thing. This understanding helps them transform evil into good using “mental alchemy”.
5. Rhythm
“Everything flows” –The Kybalion.
According to this Hermetic Principle, everything has a pendulum-like movement – every action will invite a reaction. This movement is manifested in everything around us, for example, people falling in and out of love, or the rise and fall of a nation. The Hermetists found a way to master the rhythm instead of drifting along the currents. They use methods of counteracting and neutralizing to hold their ground.
6. Cause and Effect
“Every Cause has its Effect; every Effect has its Cause” –The Kybalion.
Everything in the universe is connected, as the Hermetic Principle of Correspondence states. This Principle is an extension which teaches that there is meaning in everything. If a student is wise enough to identify what is the cause behind a particular occurrence, they will have the upper hand and not let situations overwhelm them. They will act in a more thoughtful manner.

7. Gender
“Everything has its Masculine and Feminine Principles” –The Kybalion.
There is beauty in knowing that everything has a feminine and a masculine side to it. You know you can achieve everything if you have the strength of both the energies in you. Oftentimes people suppress one side to fit in the society, hermetic students are in touch with both, which is why they are balanced individuals.
