Retrograde motion is an astrological concept. When a faster planet is seen from a slower planet, at certain points on its orbit, the faster one looks like it’s revolving backward.

Astrologically, retrogrades are times which normally make things difficult for people. That’s because the normal effects of the planets are reversed. As a matter of fact, one of the most common and one of the most feared retrogrades is that of Mercury, which occurs 3-4 times a year. Astrologically, it brings about chaos and miscommunication.

Inner planets like Venus, Mars and Mercury can cause difficulties when in retrograde because they move through zodiac signs more quickly. They tend to influence our lives.

But when the outer planets like Saturn and Jupiter are in retrograde, those events are rarer and tend to not influence daily lives. Instead, they tend to influence entire life decisions and bigger life chapters.

Three important outer planets are in retrograde phases right now: Jupiter, the king, Saturn, Father Time, and Pluto, the lord of death.

All three can influence your life’s biggest changes.

Here is how:

Jupiter (in retrograde from April 10 to August 11)

Jupiter is the largest and most gloriously royal of planets. It symbolizes kingship and a lot of external growth and prosperity, often taken as markers of real growth. However, when in retrograde, Jupiter doesn’t necessarily make it tough, as far as growth is concerned.

When in retrograde, it simply brings internal growth. You grow as a person, bettering yourself and preparing yourself for non-retrograde phases. You will need to use that same internal growth to overcome other hurdles.

Fulfill your quota of self-discovery.

Pluto (in retrograde from April 24 to October 3)

Pluto brings our inner darkness to light and by darkness, it does not necessarily mean evil or malevolence. Instead, this is just the subconscious and unconscious that are forever hidden from the light of day.

The shadow makes things more interesting because it brings out analytical possibilities that don’t exist in the light of day.

Pluto in retrograde brings these things out while serving to nurture them in the dark when not in retrograde.

And when you know the shadow that, more often than not, blocks the light, you know just what to do in order to counter it. Let the light shine.

Saturn (in retrograde from April 29 to September 18)

This much-feared planet that rules on people’s karma tends to become benign and makes you more aware of your mistakes when it is in retrograde.

It will drive you to strive harder at whatever you are at. It will also make the struggles worth it.

It will give you the strength to struggle and the determination to see it through.

So don’t let these retrograde phases fool you. This is going to be a good time to self-reflect and reevaluate things. Take your thoughts seriously and double-check your decisions.
